Course Information
Description An examination of major theories and current treatment modalities used in the field of counseling
Prerequisites DAAC 1317 - Basic Counseling Skills
Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate basic knowledge of essential characteristics of an effective
Counselor.
2. Demonstrate basic knowledge, skills, and attitude that are essential to becoming
an effective multicultural counselor.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of a framework for making ethical decisions and issues
related to multicultural counseling.
4. Demonstrate basic knowledge of key concepts and commonly used techniques of
psychoanalytic therapy, existential philosophy and therapy, humanistic psychology and person centered therapy.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of the key concepts and central characteristics that united in
the field of behavior therapy (including Cognitive, CBT and Reality Therapy).

* Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts and constructing solutions.

Instructor Policies I will not discuss your grades over the phone or by email. If you want to discuss your grades, you must come to my office, in person.
Attendance Policy Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. Students with more than three absences from the course will receive an academic penalty (which is spelled out by the instructor).
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
